How is work structured in Scavland?
The official systems split into three layers, all visible in the redesigned journal:
- Main quests — the Act I storyline (of three planned acts).
- Side quests — world-building jobs off the critical path.
- Jobs and contracts — repeatable work, new in the pre-launch overhaul, that pays and builds standing.
The demo-era changelogs show the team already treating quest tracking seriously — quests were prioritized on the map (main → side → others) specifically to prevent map-marker bugs — a good sign for the full journal system.
Why do contracts matter most?
Because they are the repeatable engine of the game’s economy: every completed job moves your standing in the two-layer reputation system (factions and traders separately — see the factions guide). What reputation unlocks will be verified at launch; what is already clear is that standing grows through work.
And the Life system means a contract site is never frozen: by the time you arrive, the fight you were sent to settle may already have been won, lost, or escalated by someone else. For surviving the trip, see the combat guide; for what you’re earning toward, the crafting and items guide.
Verified contract lists, rewards, and refresh rules will be documented after the September 4 launch. New here? The beginner guide covers your first hours.
