What is Zalesye?

Zalesye is Scavland’s world — the post-apocalyptic Soviet region the game takes place in. The official 100,000-wishlist announcement frames the September 4 Early Access launch as opening the gates to Zalesye, with players arriving in the starting settlement of Rhos.

How big is the world?

Roughly three times larger than the original demo, following a year in which the team grew from 3 to about 15 developers. The overhaul added new locations, settlements, roads, environments, faction territories, and secrets, plus a complete visual overhaul. Above ground it is handcrafted; below it, procedural bunkers generate new layouts to explore.

How does the world map work?

The rebuilt world map is exploration-focused: roads and information appear gradually as you discover Zalesye, supported by a dynamic minimap. The map is part of a fully redesigned UI — journal, inventory, trading, and menus were all overhauled pre-launch. And nothing on it is frozen: under the Life system, the location you are walking toward may already have changed hands by the time you get there — details in the factions guide.

For surviving the region’s signature hazard, see the Mist guide; for your first steps out of Rhos, the beginner guide.
